BIFF BARNES' BASEBALL BONANZA
(AP-New York, NY)
TML American Baseball Highlight Reel - April 2007 ==========================================================================
The "new-look" Beverly Hillbillies (24-10) streaked to the TML's best record in April, but the Rensselaer Strikers (23-11) are right behind! The surprising Mordor Marauders (22-12) have opened up a 2-game lead over the defending champs, Toxic Waste (20-14). The Crimea River (21-13) look to be back in form, but are being pressed by the up-start Vaparaiso Drench (20-14), who trail by 1 game. The Hialeah Thoroughbreds (20-15) have a slim lead over the Arkansas Travelers (19-15), the Walla Walla Wombats (19-15) and the Cheticamp Micmacs (18-16).

'Skayuna's Albert Pujols leads the TML in batting at .388. Oklahoma's David Ortiz and Rocky Mountain's Ryan Howard both blasted a league-leading 16 homers. Howard's 40 RBI leads the league. Crimea's Grady Sizemore legged out an incredible 10 triples! Valparaiso's Felix Hernandez (1.86) and Oklahoma's Curt Shilling (3.23) are both 7-0. Rensselaer's Jason Jennings (1.71) is 6-0. Beverly's Roy Hallady (5-2) leads the TML in ERA at 1.52. Toxin cast-off and Valparaiso "Ace" closer, Bob Wickman, leads the league in saves with 14.

Below are some awards and tid-bits from the first month of ball in the TML.

within 1, at 7-6. With runners on 1st & 2nd, and Travs' Manager Willlie Jelks pacing the dugout, Fuentes got Torii Hunter to ground to third, ending the game and the comeback. (The "Insider News" claims that the Travs *will* have a real closer before the May games commence.)

Two singles later, Beverly scored the unearned run, to take a 1-0 lead. In the home 9th, Mordor put runners on 1st and 3rd with 2 out, but Halladay induced Carlos Lee to fly to center and end the game!

Joe Mauer (hitless on the day) was walked intentionally to load the bases. Eric Chavez worked the count full, before drawing the "walk-off" walk! (The "Insider News" claims that Beverly G.M. Mike Dickinson may end up in a bidding war with Arkansas' Jelks, now that new Chicago GM Jack Stephens has put "A.K.R." closer B.J. Ryan on the block!)
