Biff Barnes TML Highlight Reel - May 2011
=================================================

Glenmont Makes Hay!

The Glenmont Haymakers (20-10 for the month)
took over first place in the Robinson Division,
as the April leaders, Madison (12-18) and
Duluth (13-17) stumbled. Rensselaer (18-12)
got back into the race. The Haymakers, now
with a 3-game lead, were led by the superb
pitching of Clay Buchholz (6-0, 0.92) and the
potent bats of Justin Morneau (.327, 12 HR,
24 RBI) and Curtis Granderson (.299, 10 HR,
20 RBI). Lorenzo Cain (.468, 4 HR, 19 RBI)
was a terror in a part-time role.

In the Gehrig, Traffic (17-13) took advantage
of weak divisional play and took over first
place. They now lead Chesapeake (14-16) and
Toxic Waste (16-14) by 5 games. Valparaiso
(18-12) has opened up a solid 7-game lead over
Marco Island (17-13) in the Gatto, as Beverly
(14-16) and Carolina (14-16) both stalled.

In the Oceanic Conference, Danny Way (22-8)
continues to put up "softball" numbers and
now has a commanding 13-game lead over
Amsterdam (17-13) in the Ruth. In the
Steinmetz, Walla Walla (20-10) played solid
ball and has a 5-game lead over 'Skayuna
(15-15). In the Williams, Rocky Mountain
(16-14), despite a "rocky" homestand, still
has a 4-game lead over Brandon (17-13).

In the 1st inning of Game 5 in the Albany-
Lake Wobegone series, with runners on 1st &
3rd, Albany pulled off a triple play (L1-5-3).

-------------------------------------------------

Danny Way's Josh Hamilton (.447) still leads
the league in batting, with teammate Nelson
Cruz (.380) far behind. Another teammate,
Robinson Cano (.350) slipped to 4th. Hamilton
leads the TML in SLG (.855), OBP (.522) and
RC (70). Cruz and Cano lead the TML in hits
(82) and Cruz leads in RBI (66). The HR
leader is Jose Bautista (21). (The most HR
that Bautista has hit in a TML season is only
18 back in 2006!) Rocky Mountain's Juan
Pierre is now the SB leader (22), one ahead
of Amsterdam's Johnny Damon and two ahead of
Walla Walla's Michael Bourn.

Danny Way's Adam Wainwright is now the leader
in wins at 9-2. Teammates Scott Baker and
Luis Atilano(?) are both among the 8-game
winners. Rensselaer's Chris Carpenter now
leads the TML in ERA at 1.54, followed by a
pair of Walla Walla hurlers, Carl Pavano
(1.73) and Cliff Lee (1.88). Rocky Mountain's
Tim Lincecum leads in whiffs (95), four ahead
of Valparaiso's Felix Hernandez. Duluth's
Neftali Feliz, Rensselaer's Mariano Rivera
and Rocky Mountain's John Axford are all tied
with 14 saves.

Below are some awards and tid-bits from May
2011 in the TML American.

Biff Barnes TML Highlight Reel - April 2011
=================================================

April is for Diamonds!

The Danny Way Diamonds (23-3) put up the most
impressive start of any TML team. They already
have an 8-game lead in the Ruth Division over 2nd
place Amsterdam (who would be in 1st place in 3
of the remaining 5 divisions! The Diamonds were
led by "Player of the Month" Robinson Cano (.407,
11 HR, 36 RBI, 40 RC) and teammate runner-up Josh
Hamilton
(.437, 7 HR, 24 RBI, 34 RC). The
Diamonds hit an improbable .321 as a team, scoring
209 runs and blasting 47 HRs in the 26 games.
Their team ERA of 2.85 enhanced the fast start,
led by "Pitcher of the Month" Luis Atilano (5-0,
3.13). Atilano received an average run
support of nearly 12 runs per game!! (At this
rate, Atilano could become the first *unlimited*
pitcher to win 32 games!)

Elsewhere in the Oceanic Conference, Walla Walla
and 'Skayuna are tied atop the Steinmetz Division
at 15-11. Rocky Mountain, despite Tim Lincecum's
0-5 start, are in 1st place at 15-11 in the
Williams.

Over in the Atmospheric Conference, Valparaiso
got out of the gate fast at 19-7, leaving
Beverly and Carolina at 4 and 5 games behind,
respectively. Marco Island is in last place,
but is playing .500 ball. The early leaders
in the Gehrig are Traffic (16-10) and Chesapeake
(14-12). In the Robinson, Madison (15-11) has
an early 2-game lead over Duluth.

-------------------------------------------------

Danny Way teammates Hamilton (.437) and Cano
(.407) are leading the TML in batting. Cano
also leads in hits (44), RBI (36), EXBH (22)
and is tied for the lead in HRs (11), with
Amsterdam's Carlos Quentin and Walla Walla's
Paul Konerko. Valparaiso's Dexter Fowler
already has 7 triples (*half* his real-life
total)! Walla Walla's Michael Bourn is the
early SB leader with 13 SBs. Rocky Mountain's
Juan Pierre is 2nd, with 11.

In pitching, Danny Way's Atilano leads in wins

with 5. No less than 10 other pitchers won 4
games during the month, including Atilano's
teammates Wandy Rodriguez and Adam Wainwright.
The early ERA leader is Duluth's R.A. Dickey at
a "Bob Gibson-ish" 1.04. Valparaiso's Felix
Hernandez leads in Ks (52). The early saves
leader is Carolina's Joaquin Benoit, with 8 SVs.

finished a solid second in the voting. Pujols
missed winning the Triple Crown by only 2 points
of batting average to Ichiro Suzuki. Pujols led
the league in HR and RBI. His 214 RC is the 4th
highest of all time and his 66 HR ranks 7th on
the all time list. This was Pujols' 3rd "Player

Carolina Completes Dream Season!

In what was a "Cinderella" TML World Series, Carl
Schreck's Carolina Crawfish
won their franchise's
first TML Championship, taking out Jeff Chapman's
Rocky Mountain Chinooks
in 5 games!

Both franchises were expansion franchises back
in 1993. It was only 2 years ago that the
Crawfish had lost 118 games!

Complete stats and linescores can be found on
the TML web page.
-------------------------------------------------

TML WORLD SERIES:

The Chinooks, behind C.C. Sabathia took a 1-0
series lead, winning G-1 by 5-3 score. The
turning point in the series may have been as
early as G-2, when the Crawfish rallied from a
4-0 deficit in the 7th, to tie the game and
send it to extra innings. They won it in the
bottom of the 12th, 5-4. The Crawfish took G-3
by a 7-1 score, behind John Lackey. The final
two games were 1-run Crawfish victories, both
decided in the 8th inning.

For Carolina, Joe Mauer (.368, 3 HR) and
Justin Upton (.350, 2 HR) came up big.
Mauer held the Chinooks to 1 SB. However,
the difference was the solid Crawfish
pitching (2.81 team ERA)! Rocky Mountain
hit only .208 as a team. Sabathia and Tim
Lincecum pitched great in each of their
two starts, but did not get much support.

A "Cinderella" World Series!

The recent trend of upsets continued into the
Conference Finals as both Carolina and Rocky
Mountain
took care of business, both prevailing
in exciting series that went the full 7 games!

The two teams with the lowest regular season
win totals will now decide the TML Championship!

One thing is for sure, we will have a new TML
Champion!

-------------------------------------------------

Complete linescores and stats on the TML web page
-------------------------------------------------
OCEANIC CONFERENCE FINAL:

The Rocky Mountain Chinooks and the Walla Walla
Wombats
split the first two games. The Chinooks
won an extra-inning thriller in G-3, but the
Wombats regrouped and rode strong pitching
performances by Cliff Lee and Ryan Dempster to
take a 3-2 advantage back home. In G-6, the
Chinooks opened up an early 7-0 lead and hung on
to win the slug-fest 11-7 and force a G-7. Scott
Kazmir
(20-4 on the regular season) rose to the
occasion and led the Chinooks to a commanding
7-1 victory and their second consecutive trip to
the TML World Series!

For Rocky Mountain
, five different players had
5+ RBI. Russell Martin led the attack, batting
.391 (9-23), with 6 runs and 5 BBs. In what
seems to be an odd, but effective move, the
Chinooks again gave the ball to Brett Cecil and
his 3-16, 6.67 regular season record!

-------------------------------------------------
ATMOSPHERIC CONFERENCE FINAL:

The Carolina Crawfish took the first two games
on the road from the Toxic Waste River Rats, a
team that had been very tough to beat in their
home ballpark. G-2 was an 11-0 beat-down. The
Toxins rallied late to win G-3, but dropped
G-4 by a score of 3-2. In G-5, Mark Buerhle
hurled a CG 5-hitter for the Toxins to send the
series back home. G-6 was a battle of bullpens,
won by the Toxins in the home 9th, to force a
G-7. The series finale developed into a
pitching duel between Brett Anderson and Javier
Vazquez
. The Carolina bullpen preserved the
3-1 led and send the Crawfish to their first
ever TML World Series!

For the Crawfish, Nelson Cruz was a terror,
batting .500 (8-16), with 7 RBI and 3 HRs.
Though only getting one win, Brett Anderson
(2.55) was their pitching star, coming
through with three solid GS! The Carolina
staff ERA was 2.59 and that includes four
games in the launching pad, known as "Yankee
Stadium!"

For the Toxins, the heart of their order
(Rolen,Teixeira,Ibanez) combined for a .197
(14-71) average and their "Ace" starter,
Vazquez (22-6 in the regular season), was
0-2 in his three GS.

2010 Playoff Upset Special!

In a shocking turn of events, the three teams
with the best regular season records were all
eliminated during the Divisional Playoff Round!
The only 100+ win team to advance was the Toxic
Waste River Rats
.

-------------------------------------------------

Complete linescores and stats on the TML web page
-------------------------------------------------
OCEANIC CONFERENCE DIVISION ROUND:

The Rocky Mountain Chinooks, at .538, took the
lowest winning percentage of all playoff teams
into the post season. The Arkansas Travelers,
with a TML best 114 wins, selected the Chinooks
as their first round opponent. The Chinooks won
a 12-inning G-1 and then ripped off 2 more wins,
to lead 3 games to none! The Travs posted a
pair of wins, but the Chinooks completed the
upset with a convincing 7-5 G-6 win! Delmon
Young
(11-26, .423, 5 R, 5 RBI) led the attack
for the Chinooks. The strong frontline Chinook
starters C.C. Sabathia and Tim Lincecum were a
bit shaky, but the bullpen was solid. The Travs'
powerful regular season tandem of Pablo Sandoval
and Shin-Soo Choo were held in check by the
Chinook staff.

Without checking the record books thoroughly,
it is quite possible that when Rocky Mountain
gave the ball to Brett Cecil in G-4, it marked
the worst regular season stats ever for a TML
post-season starting pitcher: 3-16, 6.67.

Meanwhile, the defending TML Champs, Walla Walla
Wombats
were taking on the Wild Card Danny Way
Diamonds
. The Wombats jumped out to a 3 games
to none lead in the series! The Diamonds did
manage a G-4 win, but the Wombats took the series
in G-5, winning 5-2. The Wombats took severe
advantage of the weak throwing arms of the Danny
Way
catchers and stole 21 bases (CS only twice)
in the 5 games! SB Champ Michael Bourn was
10-11 in SBs. The Wombats used 22 relievers in
the series, keeping the Diamonds off balance.

Oceanic Conf. Final: Rocky Mtn. vs. Walla Walla
(A re-match of last season's TML World Series!)

-------------------------------------------------
ATMOSPHERIC CONFERENCE DIVISION ROUND:

Based on a 14-2 regular season domination, the
Beverly Hillbillies selected the Wild Card Carolina

Crawfish as their first round opponent. Justin
Verlander opened the series with a combined 6-hit
shutout! The Crawfish regrouped and reeled off 3
straight victories to open up a commanding 3-1
series lead! The Hillbillies fought back to win
the next two to even the series. G-6 was a hard-
fought, 10-inning affair. With the series tied at
3 apiece, the Crawfish jumped on 20-game winner
Dan Haren to open up an early 6-1 lead after 4
innings. The Hillbillies rallied for 3 in the 6th,
but the Crawfish bullpen shut them down, for a

6-4 win and a trip to the Conference Finals! For
the Crawfish, Ben Zobrist (13-28, .464, 4 RBI),
Jeff Baker (5-12, .417, 4 RBI) and Ronny Cedeno
(9-24, .375, 6 RBI) led the attack.

The Toxic Waste River Rats edged the Rensselaer
Strikers in the first 2 games, by identical
scores of 5-4. The Strikers came back to win
2 of 3 in their home park, the only loss to
22-game winner Javier Vazquez. With a 3-2
series lead, Toxin Vincente Padilla took his
undefeated record to the mound and tossed a
CG, 5-hit shutout to close out the series!
The Toxins used a combination of a balanced
offense and fine pitching to advance.

Carolina and Valparaiso in Show-down!
Suzuki spoils Pujols' bid for Triple Crown!

The Carolina Crawfish stumbled at Beverly once
again, and the Valparaiso Drench caught them to
tie for the Atmospheric Conference Wild Card.
Carolina won the exciting tie-breaker playoff,
3-2. Without hesitation, Beverly (best record
in the Conference) selected Carolina as their
first round opponent. That leaves Toxic Waste
hosting Rensselaer.

In the Oceanic Conference, the Arkansas Travs
rode out the string to a TML best 114 wins.
Arkansas selected the Rocky Mountain Chinooks
as their first round opponent. Walla Walla
will host Danny Way in the other playoff.

-------------------------------------------------

Madison's Ichiro Suzuki denied 'Skayuna's Albert
Pujols
the Triple Crown, by hitting .439 in the
final month, taking the batting crown at .359.
Pujols finished 2nd at .357. Pujols did run away
with 162 RBI and 66 HRs, not to mention leading
the TML in SLG (.761), Runs (141), EXBH (127)
and RC (214)! Suzuki led the TML in Hits (231)
and has now had 200+ hits in every one of this
nine seasons in the TML and now has 2093 Hits for
his career! Valparaiso's Adrian Gonzalez blasted
58 HRs. Walla Walla's Michael Bourn "ran away"
with the SB crown, with 85 SBs. Albany's Hanley
Ramirez
was 2nd with 81 SBs.

In pitching, there were three 22-game winners,
Toxin Javier Vazquez (22-6), Danny Way's Scott
Baker
(22-7) and Beverly's Justin Verlander
(22-8). Carolina's Brett Anderson won the ERA
title at 2.67, with Perth's Zack Greinke at 2.69.
Also joining the "20-win Club" were Arkansas'
Josh Johnson (20-4), Rocky Mountain's Scott
Kazmir
(20-4), Beverly's Dan Haren (20-5), Danny
Way's Wandy Rodriguez (20-5) and Rocky Mountain's
Tim Lincecum (20-7). Greinke took the Strikeout
Crown with 283 Ks, 5 more than Verlander. The
"Fireman of the Year" award goes to Toxin C.J.
Wilson
with 50 SVs.

A-Rod Finally Leads Rangers To World Series
October 24, 2010

ARLINGTON, TX—Ten years after signing a record $252 million contract to play baseball in Texas, third baseman Alex Rodriguez finally delivered for the Rangers by leading the franchise to its first-ever World Series. "A-Rod came up big for us this entire series, all the way up until the last out," Rangers manager Ron Washington told reporters during a postgame press conference, saying that the Rangers would have had no chance of beating the New York Yankees without Rodriguez's remarkable performance at the plate. "It was a long time coming, but you have to give the guy credit. He was the Rangers' MVP, no question." Washington added that seeing Rodriguez take Texas to the World Series was one thing, but A-Rod almost single-handedly beating the Yankees was "extra sweet

TML Biff Barnes Highlight Reel - September 2010
==============================================

Crawfish and Squires Make Their Move!

The Carolina Crawfish (18-8 in September) took
advantage of a Valparaiso (11-15) stumble to
take over the Atmospheric Wild Card by 3 games!
Beverly (15-11) slowed down a bit, but still
clinched the Gatto Division. The other two
division leaders, Rensselaer in the Robinson and
Toxic Waste in the Gehrig, both went 20-6 and
have opened up big leads. Toxic Waste started
their season 19-19 at home and have since gone
30-4. (What are they putting in the water coolers
in the visiting clubhouse?!)

In the Oceanic Conference, the 'Skayuna Squires
(18-8) have closed to within 3 games of Steinmetz
Division leading Walla Walla Wombats (12-14), who
had a tough month. Albany (17-9) closed to 5
games behind. Elsewhere, Rocky Mountain (13-13)
played .500 ball and nearly clinched the Williams,
as second place Brandon (4-22) completely imploded!
The "Ruth Showdown" between Arkansas (19-7) and
Danny Way (12-14) went to Arkansas, who now has a
solid 6-game lead. Danny Way has clinched at
least a tie for the Oceanic Wild Card, with 16
games to go.

-------------------------------------------------

'Skayuna's Albert Pujols strengthened his bid to
become only the second Triple Crown winner in TML
history. Pujols (.359) regained the batting lead
from Madison's Ichiro Suzuki, who slumped (.241)
during the month. Pujols has a comfortable lead
in RBI (141), but only leads Valparaiso's Adrian
Gonzalez
by 2 HRs, 56 to 54. Ichiro did reach
200 hits once again, now with 213. Albany's Hanley
Ramirez
stole 19 bases and is now only 2 SBs

behind Walla Walla's Michael Bourn (81 SBs). Toxin
DeWayne Wise was beaned 9 times, raising his TML
lead to an incredible 31 HBP (and he only has 149
ABs). Ouch!

In pitching, Toxin Javier Vazquez won another five
games, raising his record to 22-5. Danny Way's
Scott Baker (21-7) and Beverly's Justin Verlander
(21-7) also joined the "20-win Club." Verlander
took over the strikeout lead from Perth's Zack
Greinke
, 257 to 251. The battle for "Fireman of
the Year"
will likely come down to Arkansas'
Angel Guzman and Toxin C.J. Wilson, tied with 43
SVs, though Beverly's Huston Street is not far

behind in RPs.

Featured series in October, 'Skayuna goes to Walla
Walla and Albany goes to 'Skayuna. Carolina and
Valparaiso both play Beverly and Marco Island.

Below are some awards and tid-bits from the
