The Gehrig Heats Up!

The Gehrig Division is becoming a 4-way fight
between division leader Rocky Mountain (21-13
in June), Lake Wobegone (22-12), Toxic Waste
(20-14) and now, Traffic (22-12). On the other
side of the Atmospheric Conference, in the Gatto,
Rensselaer (19-15) was the only team to play
over .500 ball and now leads Beverly (17-17) by
2 games.

In the Oceanic Conference, in the Ruth, Walla
Walla (25-9) continues to be the hottest team
in the TML and is now playing .761 ball! The
Wombats have opened up an 8-game lead over Danny
Way (23-11) and lead by 12 games over Madison
(21-13). Madison had a chance to take over 2nd
place, but lost 5 of 7 at home to Danny Way. In
the Steinmetz, Valparaiso (21-13) leads both
Mudville (22-12) and 'Skayuna (20-14) by a solid
10 games.

Madison's Torii Hunter (.239, 27-113) went into
a major slump and dropped out of the batting race.
Oklahoma's Magglio Ordonez and Toxin Mark Teixeira
took over the batting lead at .350. "Player of
the Month" Teixeira leads the league in RCs (99),
2B (32-tied) and RBI(81), and is second in SLG and
OBP to Rensselaer's Carlos Pena (.662,.438).
Maine's Carlos Quentin and Duluth's Miguel Cabrera
are tied for the HR lead at 26.

In pitching, "Pitcher of the Month" Walla Walla's
A.J. Burnett (6-0 in June) is now 14-2, with a
2.59 ERA (2.59-tied for 2nd best). Teammate Ryan
Dempster leads in ERA with 2.39 and teammate Cliff
Lee is 4th at 2.60. Tied for 2nd best ERA is
Rocky Mountain's C.C. Sabathia. Valparaiso's Felix
Hernandex is 12-3 and Maine's John Danks is 12-5.
Rocky Mountain teammates Sabathia (150 K) and Tim
Lincecum (147 K) are tops in strikeouts. Lake
Wobegone's Brian Fuentes (14-15 Saves, 1.06) had
a very strong June and is now the Saves leader
with 31.

There were 18 2-hitters during the month!

Lake Wobegone's Ronnie Belliard went 5-5, with
5 RBIs, blasting a go-ahead 2-run HR in the 7th
and then, a game-winning 2-run HR in the 9th!

** Pitching Duel Game of the Month **

The Squires Ted Lilly and Drench Jason Marquis
hooked up in an intense pitching duel, completed
by both bullpens. The only run came on an
Albert Pujols solo HR in the top of the 1st
inning!

In a potential playoff preview, the Danes and
Drench battled through the month's longest game,
a 14-inning, 6-5 thriller, eventually won by
the Drench on a Casey Blake 2-out, GW-double!
The Danes had blown a 5-0 lead!
